Banjul, The Gambia, July 20, 2024 - The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) is pleased to announce that Gambia will join 206 National Olympic Committees worldwide in participating in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, scheduled to take place from July 26th to August 11th, 2024.

There are high hopes and confidence that the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be a symbol of peace and unity during these trying times for the world. The Games will unite billions of people around the globe with a shared vision of peaceful competition.

These Games will mark the beginning of a new era, featuring full gender parity and complete alignment with Olympic Agenda 2020. The Games will also be more sustainable, aiming to cut carbon emissions by half compared to the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games. This ambitious goal aligns with the Paris Climate Agreement's objectives for 2030, achieving these targets six years ahead of schedule. The Olympic Games will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy, with 95 percent of the venues being pre-existing or temporary facilities.

The Gambia’s journey to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games began four years ago when the GNOC secured Olympic scholarships for seven athletes to train in high-performance training centers. These scholarships were aimed at helping athletes attain qualification standards for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

In addition to the scholarships, the GNOC has been closely working with the National Sports Council, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the respective National Sports Associations to support athletes' participation in Olympic qualification and other important competitions globally.

The qualification window for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games closed on June 30, 2024. The International Olympic Committee (IOC), in collaboration with the respective International Federations (IFs), confirmed the list of athletes who qualified through standard qualification or universality places based on the requirements set for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

We are pleased to report that, in comparison to our past Olympic appearances, Gambia will have the largest contingent ever, with seven athletes competing in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, following the IOC's establishment of qualification requirements.

Gambia will compete in four sports at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, as detailed below:
