Coach Abdoulie Bojang was speaking yesterday, Thursday during his pre-match interview ahead of their second Group C game against Zambia today, Friday 24th February 2023.
The Gambia defeated Tunisia 1-0 in their opening game of the tournament through Captain Alagie Saine's remarkable header on Tuesday afternoon.
The Young Scorpions currently top group C with 3 points and will be looking forward to another maximum points against Zambia, who drew against Benin on Tuesday to qualify to the quarterfinals with a game to spare.
“What is obvious is that this is a must not lose game for us. We must give a better performance,” said Coach Bojang.
“It is a crucial match. We take it game by game. We will approach them with calm and focused mentality and give them the maximum respect.”
According to him, “our goal remains unchanged, that is to win and collect the maximum points and qualify for the quarterfinal which will be just one step away from the World Cup.”
Meanwhile, a win for the Young Scorpions today against Zambia will qualify them to the quarterfinals with a game to spare against Benin. Qualifying into the quarterfinals will get them one step closer to qualifying for the U-20 World Cup in Indonesia.
