The training project funded by the European Union with other partner support from the World Amputee Football Federation and STAND, was a remarkable initiative through inclusivity in sports development in the country and empowerment of women with disabilities in the world of sports.
During the three days course period, participants underwent various topics including expectations, introduction to life skills, theories on laws of the game, technical football training, and the power of concentration.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, President of Women Amputee Football Association, who also doubles as project course coordinator, Veronic Aisha Malack, gave her pledge to ensure the team is sustainable,
Second-Vice president of The Gambia Amputee Female Football Association, Baboucarr Jobe, described the camp as a valuable platform to strengthen technical knowledge of the team and improve team work communication, enhance confidence and promoting discipline and professionalism.
Jobe challenged team participants to translate the knowledge gained into practice. He outlined that among the objectives of the training was to bring together the team, share knowledge, experience, identify areas for further development and establish a stronger sense of unity and team spirit.
"The training represents a significant step towards promoting inclusion, empowerment and equal opportunities for women and girls with disabilities through sports," Jobe said.
Tom Williams Obe, a representative from STAND and core-funder of the institute, applauded the new team for what he described a remarkable talent exhibition during the three days. He assured that upon his return to the United Kingdom, he would do networking to see how to put the team in bigger steps.
