The Foni boys came into the match with 3 points after their stunning 2-0 victory over Sukuta in their opening group match played at the Bwiam Football Field before rubbing shoulders with Gunjur, who drew 1-1 with FABY in their opening group match played at the Farato Football Field.
Foni made an excellent start to the match and dominated Gunjur in all departments in the field of play, launching several goal scoring attempts but were wasteful in front of goal.
Gunjur, who were unable to contain Foni in the midfield, created a few goal scoring opportunities but failed to capitalize on them thus the first half ended goalless.
Upon resumption of the match, Gunjur introduced Mafugu Demba alias Fujo and Ismaila Badjie alias Denis to reinforce their attacking tag and dominated Foni in the midfield, creating numerous scoring opportunities.
Prolific striker Alieu Badjie opened the scores for Gunjur in the 57th minute from a glancing header, which eventually proved to be the winner for the Coastal Town boys.
Foni reacted quickly attempted for an equaliser and crafted some goal scoring opportunities but failed to materialise on them thus the match ended 1-0 in favour of Gunjur.
