Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove shares insights into how Mozambique secured a 2-2 draw against seven-time African champions Egypt at Afcon 2023.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The 29-year-old delivered an impressive performance for Mozambique in their opening Africa Cup of Nations match against the Pharaohs on Sunday, January 14.

The Mambas nearly caused an upset against their star-studded opponents in the Group B encounter, with Egypt requiring a stoppage-time penalty from Mohamed Salah to salvage a point.

WHAT DOVE SAID?

"We had a good game plan, and our coach gave us instructions on how to defend as a team. It was mostly about us; how we must operate as a unit in defence and attack," the defender said on Kaizer Chiefs' website.

"Obviously, we wanted to take all three points, but in the end, a draw is still a positive outcome and now our focus shifts to our two remaining games."

AND WHAT MORE?

Speaking on the next match against Cape Verde, Dove concluded, "It is going to be very tough against Cape Verde. We played them before and they are improving a lot, but our performance against Egypt has given us confidence to go into the game with a positive mindset."

WHAT'S NEXT?

After facing Cape Verde on Friday, January 19, Mozambique will confront Ghana on Monday, January 22.

The Mambas will be determined to secure a favourable position in the group stages for advancement to the next round.
