Catherine Jatta inspired Gambia to a comfortable 1-4 victory against Sierra Leone in day two of the WAFU Zone A Women's football Championship in Sal, Cape Verde.

The youngster scored the fastest goal of the tournament history with a little over a minute on the clock to put the Women's Scorpions in the lead. The Police FC forward added her second to two before the break to keep Sierra Leone at bay.

The player of the match resumed to add two more goals to earn her the quadruple while the Sierra Queens could pull only one back as consolation. Catherine was voted the most outstanding player decorated by Wafu with a deserved award.

Coach Mariama Bom Sowe brought in Fatoumatta Jammeh, Mamie Sey, Fatoumatta Erma, and Kaddy Jarju to earn their debutes in the second half when the Gambia would complete the full time in academic fashion.

The Gambian community in Sal and the environs in Cape Verde greeted the team in scores to cheer up the Queen Scorpions with drumming, singing and dancing in our national colors

The Gambia will return on Monday 23rd January 2023 against defending Champions Senegal who were 4-0 winners over Guinea in today's earlier game.

It was an all-round performance by the Queen Scorpions watched by a visibly elated WAFU President Lamin Kaba Bajo.
