The students, who underwent various karate training programmes, at the Busumbala karate Centre on VIP protection and self-defence attended the celebration ceremony.
Speaking at the event, trainer at the Busumbala Karate Club, Foday Jawara, stated that every year they celebrate Busumbala Karate Club since the establishment of the club, adding that students showcased their talents to compete.
Jawara revealed that they organise the event to entertain and expose students to learn new things.
He thanked the management of Busumbala Karate Club for equipping youth with skills, adding that the training would help students.
Jawara called on authorities, philanthropies to show interest in karate, saying this can elevate the game to a level where football is.
Speaking earlier, the chairman of the National Sports Council (NSC), Lamin Jawara, thanked Bumsumbala Karate Club for their efforts.
Jawara assured Busumbala Karate Club of the NSC’s readiness to support the Busumbala based-Karate Club.
He added that as an institution the NSC is an all-inclusive sport in The Gambia.
The founder of Karate in The Gambia, Muhammed Kaba Musa, advised the gathering to take the discipline seriously in order to take The Gambia to the international world.
Member for Bundungka Kunda Constituency, Hon. Sulayman Jammeh, also advised youths who took karate as a passion to the discipline seriously, adding that youths cannot be in one sports.
Hon. Jammeh called on the government, regional councilors and area councils to recognise karate and help them in their quest to develop karate in The Gambia.
