Afcon 2023 qualifiers: Gambia beaten away by Congo

The Scorpions of The Gambia were beaten 1-0 away by the Red Devils of Congo Brazzaville during their second Group G game of the Africa Cup of Nations 2023 qualifiers played at the Stade Alphonse Massamba-Debat in Brazzaville yesterday, Wednesday. 

Antoine Makoumbou scored the only goal of the game for Congo Brazzaville in the 74th minute. 

The Scorpions who made a bright start to the qualifiers after defeating South Sudan 1-0 at home in Senegal, now conceded their first goal of the qualifiers which came with a defeat in the hands of Congo Brazzaville.

The Red Devils of Congo Brazzaville, who were thumped 4-0 away by Mali now collected their first maximum points in the qualifiers. 

The result ensure Congo Brazzaville and The Gambia are level on three points after playing two games each.

Meanwhile, in The Gambia’s group, South Sudan will today, Thursday take on group leaders Mali in a game to be played at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende in Uganda.

The Scorpions will next play the Eagle of Mail at home in Banjul during their third game of the Africa Cup of Nations 2023 qualifiers in September.
