
The First Infantry Boys defeated Sanchaba FC 1-0 in a final played at the Nema Su Football Field over the weekend.
Both teams produced exciting and football during the match.
First Infantry FC bagged the trophy, thanks to Amadou Conteh’s 25th minute close range strike.
The league trophy, which was named after the Governor of West Coast Region Ousman Bojang, attracted hundreds of spectators from Medina Nema Su and its surrounding villages.
Minute of silence was observed for late Modou Sanyang, who contributed immensely to the development of Sports in Medina Nema Su.
Speaking to Point Sports after the match, the Governor of West Coast Region, Ousman Bojang, thanked the organisers for staging a very peaceful tournament, adding that the tournament created an opportunity for the youth to rekindle as a society.
Governor Bojang advised youth to stay focus.
He called on committee to come forward and work together.
Governor Bojang challenged the committee to fast track the documentation of the football field.
Acting commanding Officer at One Infantry Battalion, Lt. Col Ambrose Dacosta, expressed delight over the sprite of sportsmanship displayed during the course of the final match.
Dacosta pointed out that football as more than just a game, adding “it is a powerful tool” for building bridges between the military and the community they serve.
He revealed that military events like this are not meant to define a winner or a looser but to promote mutual respect, trust and understanding with community they serve.
The chairman of Medina Nema Su Sports Committee, Yaba Jallow, thanked Medina Nema Su Sports Committee for their commitment in making sure the tournament finishes smoothly.
Jallow called on sponsors to sponsor their tournament, adding that the tournament was solely sponsored by the community of Medina Nema Su.
