POOR SERVICE DELIVERY

Mar 1, 2024, 11:57 AM | Article By: D M. Badjie Political Scientist / Consultant

Urban Gambia, especially in Bakau area, Kanifing area and elsewhere are experiencing serious water, electricity and internet service cuts, thus causing hardships on the people.

Residents and holidaymakers are in an angry mood and complaints are mounting everyday about the poor services of essential living conditions in KMC.

In Kanifing East Layout for example, since December 2023, the GAMCEL fiber cables have been cut by the road construction works according to officials of the company. The residents were promised that the problem will be fixed and internet services will resume in earnest. The area has yet to see any internet connections.

The erratic and sometimes non availability of water and electricity services is worrisome. One wonders whether there is a NATIONAL SABOTAGE against the government service delivery or public servants are just not working sincerely to build the nation. The executive must understand that tarnishing the image of the country does not mean through violence and criticism of the government only but through sabotage of the efficient and effective service delivery so as to engineer resentment against the government by the people. This point is relevant to take note of particularly in Urban Gambia where the majority of voters are living.

Government must take a firm stance against all tendencies that will harm the country. There are many other sectors that are considered by the public as nonfunctional and nonproductive, and public officials should be proactive in making the Gambia a great country.
