
Under the theme “Promoting Youth Civic Education for Accountability and a Sustainable Region,” the event drew high-level government officials, development partners, and representatives from civil society organizations.
The convergence aimed to galvanize youth participation in civic life and equip them with the tools to foster accountability and sustainable development across the region.
Alhagie Modou Touray, Chief of Upper Fulladu West, commended the youth for their initiative and urged them to seize the opportunity to deepen their understanding of civic education and skill development. He reaffirmed his dedication to youth empowerment, peacebuilding, and national unity.
Echoing similar sentiments, Sulayman Sawaneh, Chairman of the Janjanbureh Area Council, emphasized the critical role of young people in shaping the future. “The youth are our future leaders, they must be empowered,” he stated, pledging continued support from the council for both youth and women across the region.
Regional Youth Chairman Abdoulie Jawara stressed the importance of unity among young people and called on the government to address pressing issues such as irregular migration. “Empowering youth is key to reducing migration and improving livelihoods,” he said.
Alhagie Jarju, Executive Director of the National Youth Council (NYC), highlighted the role of civic education in curbing irregular migration and fostering responsible citizenship. He outlined several government initiatives aimed at youth empowerment, including internship programs and infrastructure development. Jarju also extended gratitude to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the Ministry of Youths and Sports for their support in making the event a reality.
Representing ActionAid International The Gambia (AAITG), Program Manager Saiba Susso urged young people to embrace accountability and unity as pillars of sustainable development.
The CRR Youth Convergence 2025 served not only as a celebration of youth potential but also as a strategic platform for dialogue, learning, and collaboration. As the region looks ahead, the voices raised in Bansang signal a growing momentum toward inclusive governance and a brighter future led by informed, empowered youth.
