The competition was aimed at strengthening the reading skills of students as well as providing them with learning opportunities.
It also seeks to enable students know African story to be able to narrate it correctly.
Currently, The Gambia is said to be the only country that participated in the quiz competition, even though the competition was open to all the countries in Africa.
The Gambia is expected to host the African Quiz Competition in the near future.
Addressing the gathering, Tunde M.N. Ogundimu, executive director of Take-M, said the initiative would no doubt enable students to understand more about Africa, and to realize the positive image of the continent.
This, he said, would help them to redesign the image of Africa and love the continent better.
“The African Nation Quiz Competition will enable the children to know Africa. It would also make them to love their countries,” he added.
He thus thanked Star Oil, Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation (SSHFC), Unique Group and others for their support, while calling on more donors to support Take-M in this crusade.
Ogundimu, also commended the management of The Gambia College, participants and Take-M partners for their efforts in the implementation of the event.
Lamin Fatajo, director of Regional Directorate 2, described the event as unique, saying organising such an event signifies patriotism and loving the African.
“There is a greater need for African children to understand their history, and know symbols of their countries. These, would enable them to contribute to development of their countries and Africa at large.”
He added; “Africa is our Africa and we cannot love our country if we do not love Africa.”
Ansata Jallow, head of The Gambia College Buganala Early Childhood Development (ECD), and Lower Basic School, said the event is significant in enabling Africans to know the real story of the continent.
“We are deeply gratifying and honored to host this event. The event is indeed important in helping the children to realise their talent, expose them and enable them to cherish their continent,” she added.
She commended Take-M for organising such an important quiz competition, while urging the organisation to initiate more programmes for the children.
Santigie Muhammed Kandeh, director of Dan Vinci and Yakan School, described the competition as important especially to the young people of the country, noting that it educates them about their continent.
“We must be proud and glad of being Africans to build the continent we want. We can attain our goals in Africa.” he added.
