NFSCPM rolls out digital training for ‘secco’ leaders ahead of g/nut trade season

As preparation intensify ahead of this year’s groundnut trade season, the National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corporation (NFSCPM) on Monday held a day’s capacity-building programme for ‘secco’ presidents, clerks and secretaries on its new digital transformation agenda.

The event held at held at the Corporation’s Banjul headquarters, brought together ‘Secco’ executives from all regions and was designed to prepare these officials ahead of the full rollout of digital systems in this year’s groundnut trade season.

The training exposed participants to a range of areas covering new procedures, use of the Corporation’s digital payment platform, updated administrative processes, and contract signing under the revised operational framework.

At the start of the event, Mr Thomas Robert, Director of Strategic Planning and Development, explained that the recent shift to digital tools was a critical part of the Corporation’s modernising work and ensuring accountability across the value chain.

“We want to change and modernize everything we do at the Corporation, and embracing digitalization is essential because it is the new way of conducting business nationwide.” he said.

Muhammad Njie, Managing Director, National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corporation (NFSCPM), assured participants of the Corporation’s commitment to collaborating with them in the best interest of farmers, acknowledging that their role remains central in the agricultural value chain.

“We want you to know that we will continue to work with you because you play a very important role in the agricultural value chain. Our goal is to ensure that farmers encounter no difficulties in getting their products to us.” he said.

MD Njie noted that digitalisation was no longer optional but necessary for efficient service delivery.

“Digitalization is the way out. For us to deliver better services, we must ensure that we digitalize our operations. Everywhere you go these days, people are embracing digital solutions and we must also move in that direction to ensure smoother and more efficient operations.” he added.

Also speaking, Lamin Sanyang, Deputy Managing Director, National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corporation (NFSCPM), highlighted the Corporation’s new digital platform, which he said, is designed to reduce losses and improve coordination during the 2025/2026 trading season.

The Corporation, according to Sanyang, wants a smooth and better way of doing business this year.

“We want to minimize losses, which is why we are introducing a digital platform. The system is user-friendly and can be used by everyone. This country belongs to all of us, and we must all safeguard its resources,” he said.

The participants described the training as timely and impactful, acknowledging that exposing them to digital tools and the introduction of the screening machine would greatly help boost services at the ‘Seccos’ while reducing delay and ensuring transparency in the system.

The Corporation reaffirmed its commitment to empowering Secco leaders with the skills, technology, and support necessary to push the agricultural sector toward a more modern and accountable future.
