The Inventory of Historic Banjul Built Heritage Project is funded by UNESCO-Paris through its Participation Program. It is meant to inform policy towards urban heritage conservation and valorisation into UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List.
The inventory took place at National Museum, Quadrangle Building, Cholera Obelisk; McCarthy Square, World War Memorial, and King George V Memorial Fountain in Banjul.
Hassoum Ceesay, the Director General of the National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC) expressed gratitude to UNESCO - Paris for funding the project which he described as “very significant to not only Banjul City Council but the country in general.
The project, he emphasised, would help to conserve and protect the history of Banjul.
Also, places like parks, squares, worship houses, shrines, among others believed to be of historic interest will be visited as the inventory team continues the inventory exercise of Banjul’s historic buildings and sites.
