Musukebba Badjie, a beneficiary from Lolochor, who received her money in Kappa village in Foni, said that the initiative has brought so much joy to their faces every day, saying it solved a lot of their problems.
She explained that with the Nafa cash transfer they are now able to provide good food to their families by buying rice and other necessary basic food commodities.
“We are also taught how to provide proper home teaching for our children and engage our family heads on issues. This is my third time receiving the cash and I have been saving some cash for my business,” she said.
Madam Badjie further informed that she is involved in petty business, adding that this is really generating income for her.
At the end of her daily business, she continued that she saved her profit at the credit union.
Fatou Fatty, a representative of the Directorate of Social Welfare at Kappa, explained that they received beneficiaries from different communities, who gathered to collect their monies at Kappa pay point.
The project, she added, is significant because one of the things they do is to educate the beneficiaries on different thematic areas ranging from maternal and child health nutrition, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, gender-based violence and more.
“For entrepreneurship, it will help them to know how to venture into business and save some of the monies gained. On how they were selected, a lot of sensitisation was done before the cash transfer and they were told that not everyone can benefit from the project. Instead, we chose few that are the most vulnerable.” she stated.
Ms. Fatty advised the beneficiaries to make the best use of their monies, saying they want the beneficiaries to invest in order to uplift themselves from their current poverty level.
Pa Sorreh Badjie, a member of the Q-money marketing, who is part of the team rolling the cash transfer to beneficiaries in Foni, told our reporter that the cash transfer is going smoothly as they have been paying the beneficiaries without encountering any major problems.
“We used to have some challenges regarding some beneficiaries not receiving messages to collect their monies, but we normally assist them in that process. Some of them used to leave their Sim cards at home and without the Sim, they cannot receive their monies. Those who also don’t receive message alerts, we use to get into their accounts to help them effect payments,” he said.
