MoHERST receives MDI Transformation Report

Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST) on Wednesday received a report to elevate the status of the Management Development Institute (MDI) into a state-of-the-art Civil Service College.

The ministry initiated the transformative agenda aimed at enhancing the professionalism, capacity and efficiency of the civil service in The Gambia by providing high-quality, degree-level education and training programs for civil servants and other public sector professionals.
The MDI Transformation Committee was established comprising relevant stakeholders such as educationalists, senior and retired civil servants to guide and oversee the transformation process.
In his deliberation, Sulayman Samba, chairperson of the MDI Transformation Committee gave details about the report and in describing it as a historic assignment commended the committee for their selfless efforts on the report and also for contributing and building a strong foundation for the future generation.
He said the committee has adequately responded to the terms of reference the ministry had provided. He added that they have also aligned the transformation of MDI to the policy allocated to the government of The Gambia and relevant to pillars in the National Development Plans particularly to governance, equitable and relevant access to education.
Professor Pierre Gomez, Minister of Higher Education commended the team and expressed confidence in the report.
The Higher Education Minister added that their transformational agenda as related to the MDI represents pivotal moments in their commitment to enhance the capacity and excellence of the civil service in the country.
“This specific agenda is not just about institutional change, it is about equipping our civil servants with the knowledge, skills and values they need to drive our nation forward,” he stated.
“The civil service often called the backbone of our nation is responsible for implementing the government’s policies and delivering essential services to our citizens,” Prof. Gomez added, saying civil service performance directly impacts people's well-being and country’s overall socio-economic development.
