GSCC trains Start-up entrepreneurs on packaging, branding

The Gambia Startup Chamber of Commerce (GSCC) in collaboration with E and P Group recently wrapped a five-day capacity building session for emerging women entrepreneurs on product packaging and branding.

The event was held at the National Youth Parliament, Kanifing. The project, supported by the E and P Group, targeted mainly emerging businesses in the agric-business and fashion sector in The Gambia. Further, the training also seeks to enhance knowledge and skills of startups businesses on ways to improve on product quality and branding.

During the training, participants were introduced to making designs, including size, shape, materials, and labeling and integrating well-designed packaging with strong branding to create a cohesive and appealing product.

At the closing ceremony, Ngoneh Panneh, deputy managing director and co-founder of E and P Group, applauded participants for their dedication and commitment.

She said that every business on exports started gradually and eventually expanded with dedication and commitment.

She thus urged participants to be champions in their contributions to the nation by expanding their businesses, not only locally, but by exporting abroad.

Kumbale Goode, chairperson, board of Gambia Startup Chamber of Commerce, revealed that the training would help the trainees to move their businesses to a higher level.

“We want to see your business outside the Gambia because the country is no longer enough for your business.”

She equally urged participants not to compete, but rather support one another for a great success.

Baboucarr Kebbeh, Chief Executive Officer of the Gambia Startup Chamber of Commerce, recalled that the event marks the eleventh batch that the GSCC has trained on businesses in The Gambia.

“In 2018, I was part of a group of Gambians that were trained and certified through the International Trade Centre on product packing and branding.”

After the training, he said, he and his college, co-facilitator, Abdourahman Jenge were able to train 300 entrepreneurs on product packaging and branding.

He revealed that over 60% of those who graduated as trainees are now supplying supermarkets in The Gambia.

Fatima Ndow, a participant, who delivered the vote of thanks, lauded the organisers for the opportunity accorded them.

 She urged her colleagues to apply the modern methods learnt during the training to make their products stand out for standards and quality.
