GAMJUL gives sanitary items to mothers at Brufut Health Center

Gamjul Moms and Babies Foundation (GAMJUL), a non-profit organisation on Thursday donated sanitary materials to 10 new mothers delivered of their babies at the Brufut Health Center.

The presentation held at the health facility premises was done in partnership with Time Square Fitness. The organisation also provided cash for the smooth transportation of the mothers with their newly born babies.

The organisation is aimed at advocating for programmes, projects and practices to address maternal health care during pregnancy by strengthening and the quality improvement to the health system in reducing maternal and infant mortality in both the rural and urban areas of The Gambia.

At the event, Fatou B. Ceesay, GAMJUL spokesperson, who also doubles as the CEO for Fatou B. Services, while congratulating the new mothers, said the foundation is all about mothers and babies.

The sanitary products given to the new mothers, she added, would significantly help them prevent bacteria and germs around their homes and to ensure that they and their babies are safe.

“We are hoping that this will be continuous thing that we provide for new mothers and their babies.”

She equally called on communities to support the initiative so as to enable them achieve their goals.

Omar Dampha, Officer-in-Charge at Brufut Health Center, who is also a member at GAMJUL, said the organisation is geared toward health and maternal mortality rate.

He on behalf of the health facility applauded GAMJUL for the gesture, outlining that they are doing well in relation to maternal mortality.

‘We don’t want to see women die because of pregnancy. Pregnancy is not a disease and it is a normal physiological change that occur in women’s life, that is the first thing we need to understand.”

Dampha noted that this stage is a very crucial point in the lives of ‘our women’ and there is need for concerted efforts to help women, especially when they are pregnant, to ensure that they get the best quality care they need.
