In their quest to help address emerging challenges while improving transportation and market access for cashew farmers across the country, the Federation of Gambian Cashew Farmers Association recently received a major boost with the donation of a truck and three tricycles.

The boost, courtesy of Shelter For Life and Forest and Farm Facilities (FFF) is expected to address the longstanding logistical challenges members of the federation face.

At the official handover ceremony, Sheriff Bojang, President of the National Farmers Platform of The Gambia, highlighted the importance of the donation, saying the truck would greatly enhance the federation’s mobility strength especially in transporting cashew products from rural production areas to key selling points, thus reducing post-harvest loss.

The intervention, he added, would also help boost formers income while promoting cashew value chain and market access.

Kanimang Camara of the Forest and Farm Facility outlined that the initiative is designed to ease transportation constraints that have long hindered the federation’s operations and growth.

Also speaking, the president of the Federation of Gambia Cashew Farmers Association, Louis Silva maintained that improving mobility is a critical step toward empowering farmer organisations and agricultural productivity.

The items, Silva added, are expected to enhance the mobility of the federation while connecting farming communities to larger markets.

Beneficiaries commended the donors for the items, saying it would help boost cashew production in the area.

Moreover, this intervention forms part of broader efforts by development partners to strengthen farmer organisations, while improving value chains and promoting sustainable livelihoods in The Gambia’s agricultural sector.
