
In his keynote address, Mr. John Nyaaba, Managing Director of Ecobank Gambia, described the unveiling as “not just the introduction of a new technology, but a powerful reaffirmation of our unwavering commitment to empowering our customers and transforming the banking experience.”
He highlighted the growing demand for speed, convenience, and efficiency in today’s banking environment, stressing that the deployment of Cash Deposit Machines is a strategic response to evolving customer expectations.
“With these machines, customers can now deposit cash securely and conveniently at any time of the day, without the need to queue at banking halls or wait for traditional banking hours,” he stated. “By giving them greater flexibility and control over their transactions, we are not just enhancing convenience — we are redefining the banking experience.”
The launch coincides with Ecobank’s 40th anniversary in Africa and is being celebrated during Customer Service Week 2025, under the theme “Mission: Possible.” The MD noted that this timing is significant, symbolizing the Bank’s determination to exceed customer expectations and embrace innovation to create simpler, smarter, and more accessible banking experiences.
“The successful launch of our Cash Deposit Machines is a clear demonstration that our mission is not just possible — it is accomplished,” he affirmed. He further pointed out that The Gambia has now been included in the list of countries with cash Deposit Machines.
Also speaking at the event, Honourable Ousman Bah, Government Advisor on ICT and Digital Economy, commended Ecobank for leading the way in digital innovation. He noted that such advancements are essential for boosting efficiency and promoting financial inclusion and urged other financial institutions to follow suit in modernizing their operations to meet evolving customer needs.
Representing the Governor of the Central Bank of The Gambia, Mr. Abdoulie Touray commended Ecobank for the initiative, noting that it aligns with the country’s vision of a modern and technology-driven financial system. He highlighted that the introduction of Cash Deposit Machines will enhance customer convenience, deepen financial inclusion, and strengthen the financial ecosystem by improving efficiency and encouraging greater use of formal banking channels. He reaffirmed the Central Bank’s support for innovations that make banking more accessible to all.
Ecobank officials disclosed that following the successful deployment at the Head Office, additional Cash Deposit Machines will be rolled out to other strategic branches, making the service more accessible to customers.
