The training was aimed at equipping these women with the skills of infant formula preparations techniques, using local food cereals such as maize, millet and coos. This, organisers, believes will undoubtedly enhance sufficient breastfeeding of babies, while also ensuring their growth.
Omar Jammeh, Program Coordinator at Ding-Ding Yiriwa Federation, while highlighting the importance of the training, emphasised the reasons of organising such an important seminar for lactating women.
"One of the main reasons of conducting such an important training was as a result of findings on the number of malnourished babies. We realized that these babies and their mothers were not taking a rightful required amount of balanced diet that will support their growth as babies," he said.
Buba Jatta, a facilitator and nutrition specialist from the National Nutrition Agency, in his deliberations highlighted key production techniques of the Infant formula diet.
He urged lactating women to avoid taking an uncompleted balanced diet, saying this will affect a healthy growth of their babies during breastfeeding.
"As mothers, we should begin to know that the healthy and steady growth of our children begins during their breastfeeding process. So, it is advisable to take a required amount of diet as lactating mothers to help in the proper breastfeeding of our babies," he warned.
Banna Darboe Sanno, a beneficiary and president of the Kombo South Ding-Ding Yiriwa Kafoo, thanked the federation for initiating such an important training for women.
The initiative, she added, would significantly enhance participants’ skills on proper preparation of Infant formula diet.
"I can tell you that this training has already given us the required skills and techniques to prepare a needed balanced diet for our breastfeeding babies using various local food cereals," she said.
