Curriculum officer at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) directorate for region one has disclosed that their wish is to ensure the country makes best use of local books in schools.

Michael Hamady Secka was speaking on behalf of director of Curriculum at the MoBSE during a press conference on the launch of 11 books by Dr Seedy Drammeh held at the regional directorate one when he made the remarks.

“I have to acknowledge Dr Drammeh’s encouragement for giving us the space to be interacting with Gambia authors so that we can develop them and have Gambian books in our schools; so that at least the rudimentary knowledge that children learn would be about The Gambia,” he stressed.

He added; “this is an indication of how serious the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education is.” he said.

He expressed his director’s resolve to making sure that every Gambian child, who leaves the basic education can speak, read and write in English.

“You cannot do that when you do not have Gambian authors,” he noted.
