Other papers approved include the National Research Policy (2024-2029), the National Research and Innovation Fund Bill 2024 and the Tertiary and Higher Education Trust Fund Bill 2024.
Reacting to the development, Prof. Pierre Gomez, Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology and his team applauded the move, describing it as a ‘timely’.
Prof. Gomez revealed that the timely approval would go a long way in putting systems in place for sustainable financing of tertiary and higher education in the country.
He reminded that support to research, innovation and entrepreneurship programs in The Gambia is given prominence in these policy pronouncements and instruments.
He went on to thank all stakeholders for their inputs in the relevant documents, which he added, would significantly enhance the socio-economic development of the Gambia.
