The launch held at the 22 July Squre is a ground breaking project aimed at empowering selected widowed women engaged in petty trading within his constituency. The women would be benefiting from a designed financial disbursement program that seeks to uplift their businesses and enhance their socio-economic standards.
In his remarks, Hon Abdoulie Njai stated that the women Micro-finance initiative is not just a project but a manifestation of the belief that women, when empowered, become agents of change within their families and communities. He added that by strategically investing in women's economic ventures, they create a ripple effect that extends far beyond the individual beneficiaries.
“The initiative aims to address a pressing need within our community - the need for financial empowerment of our resilient and hard-working women widows engaged in petty trading. By providing financial assistance through this revolving fund scheme, we are not only helping these women sustain and up scale their businesses but also contributing to the overall economic growth and prosperity of our constituency,” he stated.
Hon Njai further noted that, the empowerment of women is not just a matter of social justice but investment in their community’s future. He therefore urged the women to work together to ensure the project is a success but also makes a positive impact that resonates for generations yet unborn.
Fatou Ada Joof, women representative at Banjul City Council in deputising for mayor Rohey Malick Lowe thanked the lawmaker for coming up with the idea of helping women of his constituency. She urged her fellow women to take the project seriously and respect the agreement between them and Supersonics.
Mama Ceesay, branch manager for Supersonicz Banjul said that the women micro-finance initiative emphasises a sustainable model, as the fund disbursed will circulate within the community, benefiting more women over time.
“The MoU is signed and we have started the project from our end. Everyone is aware that Supersonicz’s main line of business is to help women,” she stated.
