The Managing Director of the Gambia Port Authority, Ousman Jobarteh, has announced a major shift in the management of staff transferred to Alport Banjul Limited, stating that human resource and administrative control will be returned to GPA following mounting concerns from workers.

Addressing staff affected by the concession arrangement, Jobarteh said the decision was taken in response to ongoing grievances raised by employees over their conditions of service and implementation of agreed transfer terms.

“Welcome back to GPA,” he told the staff, adding that he was prepared to “take the risk” to ensure that workers regain their rights and that operations continue smoothly.

He urged the staff to resume normal duties, while clarifying that the existing concession agreement with Alport remains in force regarding operational management.

According to him, while Alport will continue to provide operational instructions as stipulated in the agreement, all human resource and administrative functions will now revert to GPA oversight.

“Human resource and staff matters are all still the Gambia Ports Authority and not Alport,” Jobarteh said, stressing that GPA retains authority over staffing decisions.
