Senegalese music star Wally Ballago Seck, popularly known as the “Prince of Faramarene”, was brought before the Financial Judicial Pool (PJF) by the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) on Wednesday. He was formally charged with conspiracy to commit organised crime and money laundering, before later regaining his freedom upon paying 210 million CFA francs in bail.
The case, linked to an alleged 5.597 billion CFA francs scandal uncovered by the National Financial Information Processing Unit (CENTIF), also implicates Amadou Sall. Seck, however, denied any wrongdoing before the investigating judge.
“Selling one’s own car is not an offence,” one of his defence lawyers argued, insisting that Seck had nothing to hide. “Wally Seck is free to do whatever he wants… he is innocent of all charges. We will request the return of the bail amount,” the lawyer added.
While Seck is currently free under judicial supervision, several other individuals connected to the case remain in custody. Among them are Ibrahima Ba, Seck’s driver Cheikh Tidiane Seck, and businessman Saliou Sylla.
