VP Jallow said the government of The Gambia since coming into office in 2017, has actually put in a lot of efforts in terms of improving the health care to the people of this country.

“We all know what was in the health sector before in terms of infrastructure, medicine, and health personnel. Today, we have seen a lot of improvement in the health sector,” he said, adding “that government cannot afford to increase that access fee, so in this case, health insurance is important.”

VP Jallow said the government of The Gambia is also planning to have a national health insurance to support the population, adding that the government cannot do it alone, the reason it welcomes TransVie to play its part.

Dr Adama Sallah, president of Physicians Association, said the coming of TransVie can render a lot of services and also reduce the needs for people’s referrals for overseas treatment.

“As you all know, we are referring a lot of patients to Dakar and other places with high cost, so therefore, healthcare insurance is necessary,” Dr Sallah noted.

Alhaj Ebou Boye at Senegalo Gambia Permanent Secretariat, said the launch of TransVie Social Health Insurance in The Gambia will have a big impact on the health sector. He said Senegalo Gambia Secretariat is to emphasise peace between the two countries, noting that the coming of TransVie is to render services to both countries.

Abdou Diagne, director general, TransVie Social Health Insurance Scheme, said the activities of the insurance started in Senegal 15 years ago, and “today we are in The Gambia to start our activities and provide services to Gambian companies and population.” He said health insurance is a bit problematic in Africa and that TransVie is here to support the population.
