The 13th Matriculation was centered on not only taking oaths or official welcoming ceremony, but also entails students’ empowerment in their journey as intellectuals, and a new beginning of positive change both in their lives and careers.
The ceremony was presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. Herbert Robinson. He emphasised the importance of character, values and social responsibility for students to excel in their academics.
“This year's admission has been very competitive, we received 1743 applications. However, we could only admit 1075. Out of this number 527 are males representing 49% and 548 are females representing 51%.”
“Our dear students, as part of our continuous efforts to transform UTG into a Centre of Excellence, we are strengthening the three main pillars of the University, which include teaching and learning, research and the application of research to inform teaching and facilitate socio-economic development, and community services,” he informed.
The journey that you have embarked upon, he added, is not just about acquiring knowledge, “it’s about self-discovery, personal growth and development to contribute towards nation building.”
He underlined that the University of The Gambia is not just a place of learning, but a community that fosters networking and building of lasting friendships and partnership to transform one’s life.
In an interview, Ebrima Jawara, a freshman, expressed his excitement to be admitted as student into the highest institute of learning in The Gambia. He promised to abide by rules and regulations as stated in the oath.
