The United Democratic Party (UDP) held its highly anticipated 2nd Diaspora Convention on Saturday, August 2, 2025, in Seattle, Washington State, USA.

The event, which attracted a large gathering of party supporters and well-wishers from across North America and beyond, was graced by the presence of the Party Leader and Secretary General, His Excellency Lawyer Ousainu Darboe.

Also in attendance were Mayor of Kanifing Municipality, Talib Ahmed Bensouda, and Chairman of Mansakonko Area Council in the Lower River Region, Landing B. Sanneh - both prominent figures in the UDP leadership and symbols of the party’s generational continuity and national reach.

The convention served as a powerful demonstration of the UDP’s unity and strength both at home and abroad. In his keynote address, H.E. Darboe thanked the diaspora for their continued commitment to the UDP, underscoring the critical role they play in sustaining the party’s ideals and operations. “The UDP Diaspora is not only the backbone of our international visibility, but a key partner in our long-term strategic vision for The Gambia,” he noted.

The event also served as a major fundraising platform. Through generous contributions and pledges, the convention raised more than $111, 000.00, which, according to party officials, will be channeled into party operations and campaign activities in the lead-up to the 2026 Presidential Elections.

“This is just the beginning,” noted a representative from the UDP Diaspora Committee. “We have several more fundraising events planned, both in the diaspora and in The Gambia, as we prepare for what promises to be a defining election for our country.”

Mayor Bensouda and Chairman Sanneh echoed similar sentiments in their respective remarks, emphasizing the importance of grassroots mobilization and unity among party members across all regions and demographics. The two officials praised the diaspora for their enduring patriotism and dedication, urging others to emulate their example.

The convention concluded with a renewed call for collaboration, resilience, and strategic focus as the party enters a crucial election cycle. UDP supporters in Seattle and beyond left the event energized and confident in their shared mission to bring about transformative change through democratic means.

As the 2026 elections approach, the UDP’s message is clear: the journey continues, and every supporter, at home and abroad, has a role to play.
