In his testimony, he said that on December 1, 2022 he was in his office at the Bakau Police Station as the Station Officer. He stated that Inspector Sisawo entered his office and briefed him about some incident. He posited that he heard some stone throwing at the police station. He further said that the window glasses of the police station were broken.
“I then placed my car key and office keys on my desk and sneaked through the back door and entered the toilet. I then called the Regional Commissioner Omar Darboe and informed him as to what was happening and also informed Lieutenant Colonel Abdoulie Manneh of the Fajara Barracks for reinforcement,” he told the court.
He testified that people outside were demanding for Muhammed Thomas, who was suspected of killing Omar Sonko, to be handed over to them to be killed and also said they would burn the police station. He revealed that Muhammed Thomas was then at Kairaba Police Station.
“The crowd threw stones at the police station and destroyed our computers, television set, exhibit store and the cell, etc. They stole D50,000 and D20,000 which were exhibits after they broke into the exhibit store,” he stated.
He further narrated that when the soldiers arrived, they reported to him and protected the premises of the police station. He stated that when the PIU officers arrived, the soldiers then left the scene.
Commissioner A. Sanneh along with ASP Trawally represented the IGP while the defence counsel, K. Camara, announced her representation for the accused persons.
