Touma Njie commended for standing against electoral fraud

Opposition politician and Independent parliamentarian for Banjul, Fatoumatta Njie-Batchilly, has been commended and praised by members of the United Democratic Party for standing against vote-buying and electoral malpractice as a whole in her constituency.

Touma Njai is serving a second term at the National Assembly of The Gambia as a representative of Banjul South following her re-election in 2021 parliamentary elections.

She remains a staunch advocate of women and popular critique of President Adama Barrow's government.

Speaking at a presser on Thursday, United Democratic Party (UDP)'s spokesperson and head of Legal and Human Rights, Almamy Fanding Taal said: "What is going on in Banjul, we are all aware of it, and at this juncture I would like to really pay tribute to Honourable Fatoumatta Njie Touma for her solidarity and for her citizen activism to ensure that no electoral malpractice happens in her constituency."

"We have also heard her audios expressing solidarity with the three councillor candidates that are standing in Banjul South, that she is supporting them because one of them is a lady and that they are standing under the banner of UDP."

The Banjul South lawmaker reportedly brought to the notice of Banjul Police about one Antouman Salieu Ngum of the National People's Party (NPP), who was alleged of buying votes in Banjul South for the ruling party.

The alleged act by Mr Ngum attracted widespread condemnation from ordinary the masses, activists, as well as political parties, such as the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) and UDP.

Touma was likewise widely commended and praised by Gambians from various walks of life and from various opposition parties for exposing and standing against the alleged electoral malpractice.
