One Yusuf Kabba, a phone and computer technician, was in court on Tuesday before Justice Ebrima Jaiteh of the Banjul High Court to unlock a phone alleged to be owned by the alleged PIU shooter.

The technician explained that if a phone is reset, there are two ways to unlock it but to restore the information, one has to have a Google account, and if the person could not remember the Google account, then the information in the phone would be lost.

However, defence counsel Lamin J. Darboe applied for the phone to be given to the accused and tendered in evidence. He further said he would make further application for the phone to be opened by the technician.

His application received no objection from both the Director of Public Prosecution and the second defence lawyer Sillah of the second accused, hence the court admitted the phone in evidence and ordered the technician to open the phone in court.

When the defence counsel asked the accused whether he knew his Google account, the accused replied: "I cannot remember it because it has been a long time.”

Asked if there were other ways to find his Gmail account, the accused responded that when he was creating the account, he recorded his Google password in his diary at home.

Counsel Darboe further asked whether anyone from his family could get access to the diary, the accused said his brother could bring it for him.

The defence counsel made the application for adjournment in order to facilitate availability of the diary of the accused Ousainou for him to access the password.

Both the state counsel and the second defence lawyer made no objection thus the presiding judge Justice Jaiteh granted the application.

On the same proceeding, the presiding judge Justice Jaiteh admitted pages of the diary of the Sukuta Police Station covering 12 to 28 September 2023.

The case was adjourned till 17 February 2025.
