Supreme Court decides on Mbaye Niang-Sonko case Oct 26

The leader of the ex-Pastef, Ousmane Sonko, was found guilty of defamation and public insults and received a six-month suspended sentence, and 200 million CFA francs to be paid to the complainant. The Minister of Tourism, Mame Mbaye Niang overturned the decision rendered by the Dakar Court of Appeal on May 8, the opponent's lawyers appealed to the Court of Cassation.

After the judge of the Ziguinchor court ordered the re-registration of Sonko on the electoral lists, Les Echos announces that the Supreme Court has relaunched the Ousmane Sonko-Mame Mbaye Niang case. 

According to the newspaper, the case will be judged on October 26, 2023 before the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court.

After Ousmane Sonko's lawyers filed their request for appeal, those of Mame Mbaye Niang sent their response brief. It is a 34-page document, compared to 35 for the defense.
