Darboe made this remark in a recent interview with Coffee Time host, Peter Gomez, on West Coast Radio.
According to Mr. Darboe, GRA had strived hard to have the highest score revenue in the month of January 2024 by collecting D1.7 billion, describing it as unprecedented in the history of GRA. He explained that GRA was able to register this significant amount due to the numerous reforms it introduced.
Mr. Darboe revealed that GRA has a series of plans to expand its reform agenda geared towards creating efficiency in the system. He said due to certain issues and challenges the Authority faced, GRA was not able to accomplish all those reforms at once.
Mr. Darboe also revealed that GRA has started e-tracking, noting: “We were really suffering from people who bring in their vehicles through Senegal and from other areas and not everybody comes through the approved road.”
He revealed that with the single window now, “we have devices whereas once a vehicle arrives, we place it at the back of the vehicle and it can detect whether it is a loaded truck or not. The devices are monitored to cross check every single transaction.
He described the single window in the system as long overdue as it is currently playing a very pivotal role in easing some of the major burdens confronted by GRA.
