An energy collaboration closely scrutinized by Wal Fadjri, highlighting the fruitful exchanges between Senegal and neighboring countries, while highlighting the benefits reaped by the Senegalese national society.
According to information reported by the newspaper, Sénélec has agreed to sell 120 megawatts (MW) to its Guinean counterpart, thus generating an annual turnover of two billion CFA francs for the Senegalese company. Above all, this partnership allows Guineans to compensate for the electricity cuts they have been facing for several months.
It should be remembered that the previous year, Sénélec had already concluded similar agreements with Gambia, Mali and Mauritania. In fact, the Gambian electricity company had benefited from 60 megawatts, for an amount of 31 billion Cfa francs, of which 26 million FCfa were allocated through a management contract for the operation and maintenance of the Gambian network.
in addition, "Wal Fadjri" underlines that in 2023, an agreement for the sale of 60 megawatts to Mali was being finalized, as well as another of 40 MW for Mauritania. This strategic approach by Sénélec can be explained by the surplus electricity production it experienced between 2012 and 2024, increasing from 500 to 1890 MW.
This initiative demonstrates Senegal's continued commitment to strengthening regional cooperation in the field of energy, while allowing Sénélec to diversify its sources of income and increase its presence in the region.
