Senegalese electoral body continues to drop candidates

The Senegalese Constitutional Council has continued to scrutinise candidates for the February 25 election. So far, 72 candidates out of 93 have been dropped including Ousmane Sonko.

After verification, there are 21 candidates declared to validate their sponsorships and are provisional as they have to show documents such as tax clearance and proof of citizenship. The final list of selected candidates will be published on January 20, 2024 to the Constitutional Council.

 

The list of 21 candidates who validated the sponsorship stage are:

6 - Karim Wade

7 - Habib Sy

8 - Khalifa Ababacar Sall

9 - Anta Babacar Ngom

12 - Idrissa SECK

13 - Aliou Mamadou DIA

14 - Serigne MBOUP

15 - Papa Djibril FALL

16 - Mamadou Lamine DIALL

17 - Mahammed Boun Abdallah DIONNE

18 - El Hadji Malick GAKOU

19 -Aly Ngouille NDIAYE

20 - Elhadj Mamadou Diao, 20 - Bassirou Diomaye Faye

21 - Thierno Alassane Sall.

People are invited to vet the aspirants for any query they have today and tomorrow Tuesday.

The aspirants should prove among other things proof of citizenship.

On January 20 the final list will be announced and those qualified will run for the Senegalese top job in the 25th February election. The president to be elected would assume office on 2 April 2024.
