Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye has warned business people in the country against hoarding or cutting down basic commodities such as food items as well as against increasing prices during the months of Ramadan and Lent.

On Wednesday, Cabinet stated in a press release that business people who indulge in practices of hoarding and unreasonable price increase “will face the full force of the law”. To put words into action, the Minister of Industry and Trade has been given instruction to monitor the situation.

Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko also announced that from now on, only the President, the Prime Minister and the Speaker will travel on first-class flight, while all ministers and senior government officials, second class.

Per diem or daily allowance for Ministers on travels has been an equivalent of D28,250 and for senior government officials D16,950.

The office of the prime minister will approve travels and for international conferences, government will send only a 3-man delegation.

"For other conferences our ambassadors will represent the government," the statement said, adding that private organisations are not allowed to fund ministers or senior officials’ trips to attend overseas meetings.
