Procedure to try Macky Sall for high treason initiated

Promised by Ousmane Sonko during the legislative election campaign, the procedure to try Macky Sall for high treason has just been initiated by Guy Marius Sagna. The Pastef MP has proposed a resolution indicting Macky Sall for high treason before the High Court of Justice. The parliamentarian wants Article 101 of the Constitution, paragraph 1, which stipulates that "the President of the Republic is only responsible for acts committed in the exercise of his functions in cases of high treason," to be applied to the former president.

In his correspondence addressed to the President of the National Assembly, El Malick Ndiaye, Guy Marius Sagna bases his accusations on the latest report of the Court of Auditors, revealing a significantly devalued public debt and exorbitant financial carnage.

For the indictment against Macky Sall for high treason to pass, it will need to be passed by a three-fifths majority of the National Assembly.

In a separate development, Senegalese authorities have launched an investigation into covid-19 funds implicating several individuals.
