Presidential convoy crash claims life of policeman

An advanced Presidential Convoy was reported to have been involved in an accident, claiming the life of a policeman. Nine other soldiers have been reported injured in the accident.

Colonel Lamin K Sanyang, Army spokesperson has confirmed to The Point yesterday, saying the Presidential advanced convoy’s accident happened between Pakaliba and choya in Lower River Division.

The nine soldiers who were injured were brought to Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul. 

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Information informed that the accident involved two vehicles around Pakalinding Bridge.   

“The victims have been taken to Soma Hospital. 

Unfortunately, one Corporal Mikai Jallow passed away,” the Ministry wrote on its Facebook page. 

“While some are stable and receiving treatment at Soma Medical Center, others are referred to EFSTH in Banjul.” 

“Meanwhile, President Barrow is on his way to visit the accident victims at the Soma hospital.”

“The body of the deceased has been transferred to Farafenni General Hospital. The 13 other victims of the accident have been referred to EFSTH for further medical attention.” 

“Among them, one individual is in critical condition, while the remaining victims are reported to be in stable condition.”

“The Government of The Gambia extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. We also pray for the swift recovery of those injured in the accident.”
