The initiative, officially approved on May 27, 2025, during an emergency meeting convened by party leader Ousman Madikay Faal, aimed to address what the party describes as an “unlawful seizure” of its properties by the former AFPRC military junta.
According to a press release from the party, the establishment of the ARC was in accordance with Article 24.1 (4) of the PPP constitution, which authorizes the secretary-general’s office to create ad-hoc or standing committees as needed.
The release indicated that the emergency session, which saw central committee members overwhelmingly vote in favor of the initiative, marked a major step in the party’s efforts to recover its properties and restore its historical legacy.
The release stated the committee’s mandate which has been tasked with a comprehensive set of responsibilities, outlined in its official terms of reference.
The committee’ mandate included stakeholder engagement which would consult with key stakeholders, ranging from party veterans and legal professionals to local community leaders, in a bid to foster transparency and mobilize broad-based support. This consultative approach is aimed at reclaiming all landed properties and holdings historically associated with the PPP.
Government Liaison: As part of its core duties, the ARC will liaise with government bodies to negotiate compensation and facilitate the return of seized assets. This will involve submitting formal requests, organizing dialogues with public officials, and exploring every available legal and diplomatic avenue.
Strategic Advisory Role: The committee will also advise the party’s central leadership on potential courses of action, providing recommendations based on findings and evolving developments in the recovery process.
Regular Progress Reports: In a bid to ensure accountability and sustained momentum, the ARC will provide periodic updates to the central committee, detailing achievements, hurdles, and future plans.
Further, the PPP views the formation of the ARC as not only a strategic political move but also a moral obligation to restore the party’s integrity and rightful entitlements.
“The creation of this committee is a response to decades-long injustice. It is time to reclaim what rightfully belongs to the PPP,” said party leader Ousman Madikay Faal following the committee’s endorsement.
The ARC will be composed of individuals with deep institutional memory of the party’s operations and assets, experience deemed critical for navigating what could be a complex legal and bureaucratic process.
As the committee begins its work, all eyes will be on the PPP’s next steps in what may be a long but determined path toward restitution and reconciliation. The party has pledged to keep the public informed as efforts progress.
