Police to prosecute suspects of alleged Fajara murder case

Investigators of the Gambia Police Force on the alleged murder case involving 62-year-old woman in Fajara South in the Kanifing Municipality have announced the suspects would be prosecuted soon.

On 4th of September 2022, an alleged murder case reported in Fajara South in which police said the suspects were between the ages of 20 and 25 years and the murder was in connection with robbery.

In a police press conference held at Kairaba Police Station yesterday, Thomas R.G Gomez, deputy regional crime officer for KM said: “We have started the investigation on the murder case and two the suspects are currently under custody. They are helping the police in investigation. “We are also talking to few people and they are helping police investigation too.”

“We cannot detail out everything to you as investigation is ongoing but progress has been made. We have gone little bit far now and very soon the case will be at the court.”

The investigator added that the police have laid hands on evidence that would be very helpful to police, citing mobile phones and keys of vehicles.

“One thing about a crime is that, every perpetrator that commits a crime leaves a piece of evidence there or either takes something from the ground. These are the things we depend on to be able go this far,” he said.

He added that there are other valuable materials that were stolen from the house. “Those materials would be essential for the investigation. He urged the public to report to police if they lay hands on such items.

“If any person has suspected stolen property and may have something to do with this case, please report to the nearest police station. We will work on it as soon as possible,” he said.

Cadet ASP Binta Njie, the police spokesperson, reaffirmed the police commitment to protecting the lives and properties of the general public.

“As police institution, we continue to strive to ensure timely response to addressing emerging issues despite our little resources available. The new police doctrine of the GPF preaches against all forms of impunity such as the incident that happened at Fajara South,” he said.

She thanked the police who mounted the investigation urgently, commending Fajara South for helping the police on the investigation. 

Demba J. Bah, senior CID officer, commended the public especially residents of Fajara South for helping the police in this murder case investigation. He urged all and sundry to continue helping the police in accessing information with regard to crimes.
