Police recover over 57M CFA counterfeits , suspect arrested

Officers of The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has arrested a Nigerian national with 57.5 million CFA in suspected counterfeits notes.

The suspect is currently under police custody as investigations into the matter continues.

“The Police have made a major breakthrough in a financial crime investigation following the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of substantial amounts of suspected counterfeit foreign currency.

Acting on intelligence, officers from Bakau Police Station arrested Alpha Jallow AKA (Muslim name – name change), a Nigerian national. During a subsequent search of his residence, investigators recovered $23,100 in suspected fake US dollars and 57.5 million CFA in suspected counterfeit notes. The counterfeit currencies have been secured for forensic examination as part of ongoing investigations.

The suspect has been formally charged and remains in custody as police continue to probe the origins and potential network behind the operation.

The Gambia Police Force commends the vigilance and cooperation of the public, particularly the business community, in helping to expose such criminal activity. The public is strongly encouraged to promptly report any suspicious transactions or suspected counterfeit dealings, as early intervention is key to disrupting financial crimes and safeguarding the national economy.
