The Peace Network Team unequivocally condemns such a grave and malicious attack on men and women in uniform, who are mandated by law to protect live and properties. It is important to state that the National Security Officers on daily basis toil to ensure peace, security and stability prevails in The Gambia; therefore, this unfortunate incident is seen as an act of terror, which should be condemned without reservation.
As such, Peace Network expects harmony, respect, and cordial relations to exist between the security sectors and the public. Promotion, protection and preservation of National Peace and Security are vested in the hands of all citizens and inhabitants of the country and is an inherent collective responsibility.
Furthermore, Peace Network would sincerely advise the general public to cooperate with authorities by exercising patience and caution while appropriate investigations are underway. Since the incident occurred, so much information and rumors have been on different platforms. It is unfortunate that so many rumors and unconfirmed news are associated with this shooting and being circulated to the public. The public is advised to desist from sharing information that is not valid.
The matter at hand is a serious National Security concern, which should be appropriately investigated and communicated. The authorities should be allowed to do their investigation unhindered.
Meanwhile, we call on the Government to conduct a diligent investigation into the matter and give appropriate feedback to the public. It is important to state that government must prioritize national security. Resources needed for the upkeep and maintenance of national security should be provided to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all people in The Gambia.
In conclusion, the management and staff at Peace Network extend their sincere and deepest condolences to the President of The Republic of The Gambia, the Inspector General of Police, the bereaved families and to all Gambians for their loss, and by extension, we wish the female officer a speedy recovery.
