During the launch of Fatouamatta Bah Barrow Foundation on Friday, 10 May 2024, institutions and individuals have pledged a staggering sum of D73,876,000 to support the Foundation.

The Foundation was established in 2017 by the first lady of the country, H.E. Fotoumatta Bah Barrow.

It was named after her for prioritising health and social welfare through educational and developmental programmes.

The Foundation is aimed at uplifting disadvantaged women, underprivileged youth, children, and vulnerable communities within the country.

The chief launcher, Alhaji Muhamed Ndimi, pledged one million dollars to support and collaborate with counterparts from Nigeria to further the initiative. He named other partners such as Africell, Qcell, Metzy Resident Hotel, regional governors, GACH Global, cooks, cleaners of the State House, and those who prefer to remain anonymous.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, First Lady Fatoumatta Bah Barrow expressed her delight and gratitude towards those who have supported the initiative, including the president.

She mentioned that FaBB is committed to providing social development to the public, and has already registered significant progress in child health and survival through community-based advocacy and initiatives.

“The foundation has spearheaded meaningful programmes such as surgeries, donation of medical equipment to public health centres, scholarships, and other social development programmes to enhance its growth.”

First Lady Bah Barrow emphasised that one of the foundation's primary objectives is to complement the government's efforts by improving access to quality healthcare for newborns and expectant mothers while addressing child health during emergencies.

"We have sponsored university students both in and outside the country, and have drilled 63 boreholes. Additionally, we have donated food to communities and institutions, provided medical supplies, and presented gifts to the first babies born each year. Our next agenda is to build the country's first-ever children's hospital."

The chairman of the Board of Directors, Lamin M. Jassey, and the Chief Executive Officer, Betty Saine, called on local and international associates, including non-partners to join them in their efforts to assist the foundation.

They also urged people to come on board and help by ensuring that the Foundation provides much-needed humanitarian services to the poor and public institutions.
