“I take the opportunity to inform the general public that our initial announcement that we will withhold our services on Monday because of the lost we continue to register daily, the Vice President has called us for dialogue,” Hydara stated.
He continued that during their discussion with the country’s number two, he asked them to suspend the planned strike and promised that he would solve the matter in the nearest time. Hydara said the VP was aware of their problems and he knew what they are crying for.
“Therefore, he appealed to us and as human beings and citizens of this country, we believe that the country is bigger than everyone despite our daily losses. We, therefore, inform the public that we will continue operation on Monday and serve the public as usual.”
Businessman Hydara reiterated that they hope the government respects their engagement and solves the matter as promised.
According to OMCs, some of the reasons for their planned strike were that; they were not able to find sufficient quantities of US dollars in the market in order to pay their suppliers for fuel, meaning they are not able to supply their stations; their banks are no longer able to issue credit so that they could get fuel from their suppliers, and that the last three months’ government pricing structure has imposed on the OMCs bankruptcy loses if they continue for another month.
