The Chief Executive Officer of The Gambia OIC Secretariat, Yankuba Dibba, has confirmed that the Secretary General (SG) of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha will arrive in The Gambia today ahead of the 15th OIC Summit.

Over 300 delegates are also expected to arrive today, he disclosed at a press conference organised by the Ministry of Information. The press conference was meant to give update on current developments at OIC-Gambia Secretariat ahead of the summit.

“We have over 400 vehicles parked at the GCCI Trade Fair Center for the transportation of all delegates,” he said.

He added that among the over 400 vehicles, The Gambia government has bought 100 brand new SUVs and Mercedes Benz, OIC-Gambia Secretariat rented 100 vehicles while Mauritania loaned 100 vehicles. The cost for this is over D100 million sponsored by the government.

“We will not be faced with shortage of food, transportation and accommodation within the days of the summit,” Mr Dibba assured.

“The only issue we have is parking of aircraft; the airport cannot handle more than 15 aircrafts at once. Therefore, under our cooperation with Senegal, they have been able to grant us permit to use their old airport as a parking lot.”

He clarified that all delegates will land in the country and not transported from Senegal to The Gambia.

“Senegal will only assist with parking of the aircrafts.”

He disclosed that Senegal has waved all landing and parking fees for any aircraft coming for the summit.
