Seedy Cham, the chairman of Coalition of Progressive Gambians has reaffirmed the association’s stance that “with or without” a police permit, the November 11 planned nationwide protest would go ahead.

Mr. Cham made the remark in an interview with the press recently.

The Coalition of Progressives Gambians is civil society organisation that is calling on President Adama Barrow and his government to show care and address the high youth unemployment, rampant corruption and corrupt public servants.

The pressure group chairman Cham said the country cannot keep suffering in the hands of corruption and vowed to fight it.

Cham further called on the government to take action on the report of the Ministry of Fisheries.

Cham justified their constitutional right to protest, making reference to Section 25 (d) – which calls for freedom of assembly and peaceful demonstration.

"The Ministry of Fisheries was on fire. The fire service, SIS, and police were those investigating the matter and they have written a report. Why has the report not been given to the inspector general of police to implement it? Because there is finance involved, our ocean is now being given to the Chinese, who basically sold our ocean," he said.

"It was all channelled through the Ministry of Fisheries. Now that everything was burnt to ashes, they have done their investigation, but still they do not give their report to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to do his job," he argued.

He pointed out that President Adama Barrow’s trip to U.S. was at the expense of Gambian taxpayers as the money that was spent on his delegation could have been put into good use for the betterment of Gambians.
