The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Friday released its Activity Report and the 2021 State of Human Rights Report, documents summarising activities of NHRC and the developments registered by the country concerning human rights during 2021.

The documents were coincidentally released during its quarterly press briefing held at the Commission's headquarters at Kotu.

The development follows the release of the TRRC's Government White Paper. Salieu Taal, President of the Gambia Bar Association, attended the ceremony.

The NHRC Executive Secretary Dr. Saikou Gassama, said that the outcome of the White Paper displays government's commitment to ensure the implementation of the TRRC recommendations, furthering reassuring that the NHRC will closely monitor the implementation process.

Giving his remark, Immanuel D. Joof, the chairman of NHRC, said: "Every year, the NHRC submits its annual report to the National Assembly on the state of human rights in this country and also our activity report."

He further said that the document (State of Human Rights Report) contains conventions and protocols the state has ratified, whether government as the primary duty bearer has respected, protected, and guaranteed human rights and fundamental freedoms and how the NHRC has carried outs its monitoring and other related duties.

"So you will find out that this report contains all that during that period," he said.
