Mustapha Jallow, an ex-convict, was recently arraigned before Principal Magistrate Isatou Sallah-Mโ€™bai of the Kanifing Magistratesโ€™ Court and charged with two counts of breaking into a building and committing a felony contrary to Section 258 (A) of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025, and general punishment for theft contrary to Section 226 of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025.

Prosecutors alleged that on or about the 24th July, 2025, at Bakau, in the Kanifing Municipality of the Republic of The Gambia, Mustapha Jallow broke and entered the National Audit Office with intent to commit a felony to wit stealing.

He was also alleged to have stolen the following items: 2 Dell Laptops valued at D125,000; 1 Lenovo X1 carbon valued at D125,000; 1 Lenovo T14s valued at D125,000; 1 Lenovo T14 12 ger valued at D125,000; 3 other Laptops not in good order valued at D125,000, properties of National Audit Office.

He denied any wrongdoing when the charge sheet was read to him.

ASP Touray, the prosecuting office, opposed bail for the accused. He argued that the accused was once convicted and that he would jump bail if granted. He urged the court to remand him at Mile 2 Prison, pending the hearing of the case.  His application was granted.

During yesterdayโ€™s sitting, two prosecution witnesses testified against the accused. The case then would resume on the 12th August, 2025, when ASP Touray calls his third witness to shed light on the matter.
