Minister Sowe together with the chiefs also provided the school with a borehole with the objective of addressing the school water shortage.
It would be recalled that Ousman Sowe, while as director general of the country's State Intelligence Service attended the graduation ceremony of Fatima SSS. During the said graduation, parents and teachers raised concerns of the issue of the school encountering water shortage and the need to provide scholarships to deserving and needy students. Minister Sowe, together with the Chiefs in Foni assured them of their support, hence the gesture was in fulfillment of that promise.
The scholarships are awarded to outstanding Students in grades ten, eleven and twelve.
The award ceremony - attended by the five chiefs of Foni, Imam and Alkalo of Bwiam, representatives of the Parent Teachers' Association, students and teachers - was held at the school hall where the awardees received their awards, covering all school bills.
In his remark, Honorable Ali Nyassi, chief of Foni Kansala, welcomed the attendees and described the gesture from the minister as "treasure for the students" which would enable them to continue pursuing their educational desires.
He thanked the minister for the continued efforts and service he has been rendering to the nation, especially to school children.
Mr Sylva, Vice Principal of the school, also thanked the Honorable minister for his magnanimous intervention to the educational needs of the school children.
He stressed that the gesture would sharpen the interest of the awardees to foster their learning careers. He further encouraged the beneficiaries to utilise the golden opportunity.
In a related development, soon after the award ceremony was held, the attendees also visited the completed water borehole facility sponsored by the Honorable minister.
The Alkalo, Imam, chiefs and parents all described the event as historic and wished the minister speedy recovery.
